Determinants of Job Satisfaction of Academicians: An Empirical Evidence from Private Universities in Bangladesh

Abstract: This study intends to identify the determinants of job satisfaction of private university academicians in Bangladesh. Data has been gathered through a survey of structured questionnaires on 300 academicians selected by applying convenience sampling. The Structural Equation Model (SEM) has been used to test the hypotheses. The study reveals that the academicians’ perception of the job description, position within the organization, relationships with supervisors, relationships with colleagues, and career advancement opportunities are significant factors of job satisfaction. Moreover, lack of career advancement opportunities has been traced as the main barrier to job satisfaction. The regression results indicate that the extent of the overall model with five forecasters significantly influences academicians’ job satisfaction. This study will aware policymakers of the issues impeding the satisfaction of academics and encourage them to take necessary actions to improve organizational performance.
